Welding-Tool-Steel is generally required for the following purposes:

  • Assembly of a composite tool made of simpler elements
  • Modification of a tool to suit different requirements or to repair miss machining (fixing mistakes)
  • Rebuilding of a worn out surface or edge
  • Repair of a broken, cracked or damaged tool

Improvement of properties on a specific location of a tool built of a simple steel.

Which welding process


STICK WELDING (SMAW)
Easy to use, a variety of stick electrodes are available. Equipment is generaly available and inexpensive. Preferably used on larger tool and dies.
  TIG (GTAW)
Offers better control over the weld deposit
and is more suitable for build up and repairs
on corners and smaller Tools and dies.

ARCWEL COBALT ALLOYS (1045T, 1047T, 1049T) are available in 30mm, 500mm and 1.000mm
All other TIG Rods are supplied in the lenght of 1.000mm

ATTENTION:
The final hardness as provided in the above data depends greatly on the dilution with the base metal. To keep dilution as low as possible it is recommended not to use a sharply pointed tungsten electrode as normally used.
Preferable use a blunt or rounded tungsten electrode when hard facing tool and dies.
It is also recommended to point the arc towards the liquid weld pool and not on the base metal.
